As the authors’ intention was to achieve sound quality characteristic to LP records originating from the ‘60s and the ‘70s, they chose to use a selection of vintage analogue preamplifiers, compressors, audio power amplifiers and microphones in the studio. In order to preserve authenticity of the recorded material, it was decided not to remove random sounds, crackles and rustles that appeared during the recording sessions. Altogether, the band recorded 13 pieces/compositions by Mariusz Sobanski (Sobanski Music Laboratory UK) using magnetic tapes and Studer A807 tape recorder from legendary Hansa Studios which belongs to the history of radio broadcasting. The album was released by a prestigious label RēR Megacorp (Recommended Records) from London owned by Chris Cutler who is a musician known from Henry Cow, Cassiber, Pere Ubu and The Residents. Rare Dialect was additionally promoted by a single: Light Coorporation Tokyo Streets Symphony/Maestro X (Music: Mariusz Sobanski) The album received positive reviews worldwide. Most professional reviewers gave Rare Dialect four out of five; four out of six or eight out of ten starts on average. The album was noted for high quality of musicianship, interesting and ambitious compositions, as well as inspirations taken from various genres. The most mentioned influences included jazz, jazz-rock, progressive rock, psychedelic rock, Canterbury Sound, Rock In Opposition movement and broadly defined rock avant-garde. The album is embossed on a special gold disc! Resulting difficulty to classify the band and its music into conventional genres was, however, deemed positive. Mariusz Sobanski (additionally appreciated) for deciding to follow their own path and overlook current trends in the music industry. Professional reviewers called Light Coorporation’s music “a completely unique brand of RIO / avant-garde Prog, which is deeply rooted in the beginning of the movement (Henry Cow) but successfully updated to contemporary standards, both sonically and conceptually. He concluded that Rare Dialect is “a brilliant piece of intelligent music. LIGHT COORPORATION - Aliens from Planet Earth! Light Coorporation, inspired by positive acclaim of Rare Dialect album, commenced work on their second album just a few months after the release of their debut material. Their aim was to create an album, which would be a little different from Rare Dialect - the new record was to be full of immensely illustrative music created as a result of a very liberated artistic process Preparations, which lasted few weeks, preceded recording sessions. The musicians played and recorded new pieces in order to refine them and, as a result, adjust them to the water tower interior’s conditions as much as possible. Making the most of qualities of the space, as well as extraordinary sound distribution was a critical concept The musicians with the studio crew transformed the top of the Woter Tower into a professional recording venue. Adjustments included adequate placement of microphones, most of which were located inside the space. Additionally, the band placed one outside the tower’s window in order to record everyday sounds of the neighbourhood. This is why accidental noises, such as blowing wind, rustling trees, chirping birds or rumbling of nearby trains can be heard throughout the album Apart from the instrumentarium and recording equipment, there were two image projectors placed in the tower. They were used to project video tape movies and various multimedia Aliens from Planet Earth recording session lasted 1.5 hours. Less than 63 minuets of this material was chosen to be released on the album. Although some individual pieces or their fragments were composed beforehand, they were re-interpreted, improvised and recorded live in the water tower itself. Altogether, the band spent almost 24 hours in the Water Tower, including the preparations, the recording session, as well as disassembly of the equipment and clearing the space The band decided to invite audience and befriended artists to participate in the evening recording session, which was quite unusual. Apart from the musicians and technical crew, there were 20 people in the room altogether The event was filmed using three cameras. A DVD version of Aliens from Planet Earth, released a little later than the CD, contains the resulting, edited material. LIGHT COORPORATION Aliens from Planet Earth was released by a prestigious label RēR Megacorp (Recommended Records) from London. The album was received positively worldwide and critically acclaimed. Its reviewers noted that the music from Aliens from Planet Earth eludes usual categorisation and may be a challenge for a potential listener. It was highlighted, however, that the musicians cross established borders, stay away from clichés and stimulate imagination with their “painting with sound” – the result is progressive rock par excellence and, in fact, real art.
