British classical French horn soloist, conductor, director/harpsichordist, and Professor of Horn. Born 18 June 1945 in Manchester, England, UK.
He has been a leader in the period instrument movement as horn player, harpsichordist, scholar, advisor, and conductor.
He attended the Royal Manchester School of Music studying horn, composition, organ, and piano. After leaving college, he studied harpsichord and conducting. He was briefly 4th Horn with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. Then Co-Principal & Principal with the London Symphony Orchestra (1969-1973), Principal with the English Chamber Orchestra (1972-1986), The Academy Of Ancient Music (01/1985-06/2008), The English Concert, the Hanover Band, The English Baroque Soloists, the London Classical Players, and the Orchestra Of The Age Of Enlightenment. In 2011, he founded the Tony Halstead Horn Ensemble. He taught at The Guildhall School Of Music & Drama (1971-1999).
