    Assar Bengtsson

Swedish national fiddler born 1909 in Hököpinge, born 1909 in Hököpinge in Skåne, died 2004 in Lund.

His mother sang and his father played the flute; the maternal grandfather was the fiddler Ludvig Thulin. At the age of eight, Bengtsson started playing the violin and also played the wooden fiddle. The family moved to Malmö and Bengtsson got to know fellow fiddler Carl-Erik Berndt, with whom he often played together. He became Riksspielman in 1964 and received Zorn's gold mark in 1974.

Bengtsson played and toured with his son Staffan Bengtsson with his wooden shoe fiddles and fiddles throughout the 1980s and a bit into the 1990s. They also have some joint appearances on SVT and some recordings on Radio Malmöhus.
