    American big band leader, trumpeter, and theatrical agent.

    Born in St. Louis, Missouri, USA.
    Died April 21, 2000 in Barrington, Illinois, USA.
    Married to singer Anita Boyer (1934-1941).
    Brother of singer Gracie Barrie.
    Barrie was a featured trumpet player for three years with Kay Kyser before forming his own group in February 1936.
    Barrie scrapped his band sometime in 1941 and was playing trumpet for Cecil Davidson’s orchestra in 1942. In February 1943, Barrie formed a new six-piece outfit and hit the cocktail lounge circuit.
    Barrie joined a circus band as a trumpet player when he was 16. He later attended Northwestern University, where he studied music. After World War II, Mr. Barrie established the Richard Barrie Theatrical Agency in Chicago.
