Folk group of Lithuanian Academy of Sciences. Founded in 1979. Group‘s repertoire encompasses folk songs, dances, games, instrumental music of different regions of Lituania; demonstrations of traditions, ceremonies, telling stories, anecdotes and proverbs add some authentic flavor to the group‘s performances. Dijūta cherishes archaic traditional folk genres such as singing and dancing polyphonic „sutartinės“, playing skudučiai, horns, daudytės, lamzdeliai, birbynės, and kanklės. The group also performs less archaic and more conventional folk instrumental music. Musitions play violin, basedla, bandonija, Peterburg accordion, lamzdelis, clarinet, drum. Melodies of late XIX and early XX century predominate.
