Elizabeth Ogonek (b. 1989) is an American composer and music educator, an assistant professor of composition at The Oberlin Conservatory of Music, and a Mead Composer-in-Residence with [a=The Chicago Symphony Orchestra]. Elizabeth joined CSO in 2015 to create new works for the orchestra and co-curate CSO's critically-acclaimed MusicNOW series with a fellow Mead resident Samuel Adams.
She began studying music in the preparatory division at The Oberlin Conservatory of Music. Ogonek received a BM degree from the Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music in 2009, an MM degree from the The Oberlin Conservatory of Music in 2012, and a DMus degree from The Oberlin Conservatory of Music in 2015. Her primary teachers include Don Freund, Michael Gandolfi, Donald Crockett, Stephen Hartke, and Julian Anderson. Elizabeth also received further training under Samuel Adler, Derek Bermel, John Harbison, Oliver Knussen, and Colin Matthews.
A few prominent musicians and ensembles commissioned Elizabeth Ogonek to write original works, such as The London Symphony Orchestra with François-Xavier Roth, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra under Riccardo Muti's baton, Ensemble 360, FLUX Quartet, Dinosaur Annex Music Ensemble, the Britten-Pears Orchestra at The Oberlin Conservatory of Music, and Tim Munro.
