Swedish-Danish folk trio / The Scandinavian trio Faerd (currently touring Australia) offers nicely surprising instrumental combinations and connections on their new CD, Logbook. The net is cast even wider on two members’ other projects, where traditional Scandinavian, Irish and jazz elements co-exist. Faerd’s two longtime, Danish members are fiddler Peter Uhrbrand and saxophonist/accordionist Eskil Romme. The ‘newcomer’ is also a very experienced musician - Sweden’s Jens Ulvsand, who plays bouzouki and guitar. As the name suggests, Faerd has a particular fascination with The Faroe Islands. We’ll also hear a quintet that includes fiddler Peter and a prominent jazz bassist. They work wonderfully with an Irish guest. So too - with a different Irish guest - does a trio in which Eskil plays accordion, exclusively.
