Holland is a Dutch supergroup that had a hit with the "Hans Brinker Symphony" in 1971. The song is composed by Fred Haayen after the wise of the children's song "The owl sat in the elms". On the B-side is "The Silverfleet", an adaptation of "The Silver Fleet" by J.J. Viotta. Both songs are produced by Haayen and Cees Schrama.
The supergroup consisted of members of successful Dutch pop groups from the seventies, such as the Sandy Coast, the Golden Earring, Ekseption, The Shoes, Dizzy Man's Band and
Earth & Fire. They included: Barry Hay, Chris Koers, Gerard Koerts, George Kooymans, Cesar Zuiderwijk and Rein van den Broek. The group was accompanied by a wind ensemble and a background choir consisting of Jerney Kaagman, Anita Meyer, Patricia Paay and Yvonne Paay, among others. Although a collaboration of diverse groups, the influence of the Golden Earring is strongly present.
There is a recording by director Bob van Rooyen from "Beat Behind the Dikes"; a program made for German television. The musicians stand on thirteen artificial islands and play the Hans Brinker Symphony, a typical Dutch pop song that is a variation on the children's song "De uil zat in de olmen".
