THE INECTO SCHOOL was an improvising experimental music group formed in 2003 by Andrew, Mike, Will, Lee, Stewart in the Hyde Park area of Leeds, UK. This founding line-up evolved out of previous combos with fluid memberships such as To Suckle The Pups and BackDrumMower. The INECTO SCHOOL's instrumentation of double bass, trumpet/flugelhorn, drumkit, voice, guitar and percussion resembled that of a jazz band and their method was totally improvised but their music did not fall easily into any single musical category. They recorded their music extensively in private sessions and performed live at concerts in Leeds and Glasgow through 2003-04, supporting artists such as Jack Rose, Frog Pocket, The One Ensemble of Daniel Padden and McWatt. Recordings of these INECTO SCHOOL concerts were issued as 'The Together Road Tapes' (2CDR set) in 2005. INECTO SCHOOL produced several self-released albums in small runs on CDR, with handmade covers, beginning with St. Vitus' Dance (2004); Wrangthorn (2004) and Night Works (2010). The band assembled their albums as 'scrapbooks' made up of edited extracts from longer improvised recordings. Sessions taped in 2003-04 provided the source material for all the group's album releases up to 2010. These albums were co-produced/mastered variously by Daniel Padden, Matthew Robson and Alan Jenkins. In September 2004 the original line-up ceased playing together with the relocation of two members abroad. In 2022 THE INECTO SCHOOL published a re-issue box set of its first three albums (supplemented by selected concert recordings) as RITUAL STILLS in an edition of 100, including facsimiles of original artwork and an illustrated booklet.
