American folk singer and guitarist. Born c.1931 in Dearborn, Michigan. Died April 3, 2001 in Newmarket, New Hampshire at the age of 69. Gibbs started in music by studying piano, dance, voice and theatre arts at Wayne University, Detroit, Michigan. She was a member of the Clarions and the Tarrytown Trio. Gibbs was a member of the Womenfolk, a five-woman folk music group that performed and recorded in the U.S. and Europe in the 1950s and 1960s. She worked with Ernie Sheldon, Theodore Bikel, Pete Seeger, Eric Weissberg, Malvina Reynolds and other folk music icons, and was the host of "Around the Corner," a popular CBS children's television program.
