After studying at the Ingesund Academy of Music and Gotlands Tonsättarskola, she studied composition at the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm for Pär Lindgren, Lars-Erik Rosell, Örjan Sandred and Lars Ekström. She has also studied for Sven-David Sandström.

Kristina Forsman has been a member of the Swedish Composers' Association since 2005.
