About

Jamaican born tenor saxophonist who was born on August 6th, 1929. His name has sometimes been spelt as Mike Elliot, Mike Eliott or Mike Eliot.

In the early 1960s he was a member of Planetone recording act, Rico's Combo. In 1963 and 1964 a couple of singles were released on that label featuring Elliott as a solo artist. For a period of time he was a member of Colin Hicks And His Cabin Boys. From 1967 to 1968, he was a member of The Foundations and played on their hits, "Baby Now That I've Found You", "Back On My Feet Again" and "Any Old Time You're Lonely And Sad". He left around the same time as Clem Curtis. An article in Melody Maker magazine "Blind Date" (c 1968) mistakenly used a drawing of him instead of Eric Allendale.

He had a reggae single, "Milk & Honey" released in 1972 on the Ackee label. "Milk & Honey" also appears as the B side of a single shared with Junior English released on Gee's Records.

Elliott appears on the various artists compilations, The Ska's The Limit and The Memory Of Slim Smith. He is mentioned several times in the book, "Tighten Up!: The History of Reggae in the UK", by Michael De Koningh, Marc Griffiths. In addition to two Top of the Pops appearances, he can also be seen with The Foundations, playing three songs, "It's All Right", "Help Me" and Jerkin' the Dog". These are from a French Program Bouton Rouge, recorded on January 30, 1968.
