Nynke Laverman is born in Friesland, The Netherlands, a province with its own language.
Frisian is her first language. In 2002 she finished her studies at the School of Performing Arts in Amsterdam. On her first album SIELESÂLT (Salt of the soul, 2004) she introduced the ‘Frisian fado’, a combination that was never made before. She translated poems of the famous Dutch poet J.J. Slauerhoff into Frisian and sang them on Portuguese fado music.
She is married with musician Sytze Pruiksma.
