Founded by the Swedish national broadcasting company as Radiotjänsts Dans- och Underhållningsorkester in 1936. Changed its name to Radioorkestern in 1948, gradually growing in size and ambition to incorporate more classical material. Merged with Radiotjänsts TV-orkester in March 1967 to form Sveriges Radios Symfoniorkester. It's complicated.
For recordings made by the string section of this orchestra, use Radioorkesterns Stråkar.
