American recording engineer (28 February 1922, New York, NY–1 December 1982, Boston, MA), an inventor and consultant in sound recording for films and television, best known for his Mercury Living Presence recordings with his wife Wilma Cozart Fine. The son is audio engineer Thomas Fine.
He won several awards for his contributions to the recording industry. Founder of Fine Recording Studios in New York, and was involved in the development of stereo recording techniques and long-play records.
Fine also worked at Reeves Sound Studios for Hazard E. Reeves. Bob Fine would leave Reeves Sound Studios (RSS) in the early 1950s to build his own sound studio Fine Sound, which was purchased and then closed by Loews/MGM. In 1958, Bob Fine opened Fine Recording Studios on 57th Street.
