    Rock Workshop

Early 70s UK brass jazz prog rock band. Rock Workshop were formed in 1970 by guitarist Ray Russell (who had previously worked with Georgie Fame And The Blue Flames) with the legendary singer Alex Harvey. Their purpose was to play more experimental and innovative music with the support of a brass section. Their debut album ‘Rock Workshop’ was recorded over a two-day period in April 1970, and released soon afterwards, though it surprisingly failed to make any substantial impact on the charts. By the time of the recording of the 2nd album, Alex Harvey left the band in order to pursue his own career with the first of many Sensational Alex Harvey Band albums, being released in 1972. Al Greed (former Harsh Reality), who had sung on a number of the songs on the first album, replaced Harvey. Soon afterwards the release of "The Very Last Time" in 1971 the group disbanded. Then Russell with Greed formed in 1972 the short-lived band The Running Man.
