Carlton Hyman (Smiley) & Philip Johnson ([a=PJ (3)]) were rappers on the sound system called Heatwave, trying to get a record deal. No record label would sign them so they decided to start their own label, Shut Up and Dance Music. Way back in 1986 the Heatwave were four guys named Smiley, PJ, [a=DJ Daddy] & DJ Hype.
