Since 1970, Kalinin has been working at the conducting and choral faculty of the Moscow Conservatory.
Since 1995 he has been teaching a choir class (since 1995 he has been a professor).

Since 2007 - Head of the Department of Choral Conducting at the Moscow Conservatory.
Conducts master classes in Russia, Argentina, Belarus, Spain, North Korea.
