    Armenian pianist/composer of the Romantic period Born 1862. Child prodigy. Franz Liszt recommended he study with Anton Door, a pupil of Czerny. Made his debut in Vienna at age 23 and following pursued a busy career performing throughout Europe and composing for the piano. A bout with Typhoid fever contributed to hearing loss in 1897. The Armenian genocide of 1915 plunged him into deep despair. Elmas died on 11 August 1937 in Geneva.
