With roots in Sydney’s house music scene going back several years, Tom Piper has evolved to cement himself firmly at the forefront of a new era in club music around the world. This era, defined by a mashup of many styles from the outskirts of dance to the grey area of urban music, is steadily breaking down genre barriers and creating dance floors that are a unity of music styles. Tom Piper is leading the pack in Australia with uncanny control of the cross fader and an endless pile of drink cards! With accolades including 4 original ARIA chart hits, over 8 ARIA chart remixes including a 1 just recently, placement in the Sony ITM50 DJ Poll, remixing artists like Empire Of The Sun as well as multiple releases through labels: Hussle, Ministry Of Sound, NEWS, bambamMuzik, 777, Electrodomesticos, Sony, One Love, Senso Disc and more, trying to fit Piper’s achievements onto a single page is like trying to squeeze a fat girl onto the back of your cycle! Beginning like many other youngsters during the 90’s as a devoted raver, Tom quickly progressed from fan to DJ, sharing the DJ podium with legendary rave DJs at parties like Utopia and Godspeed. His career as a Rave DJ and producer also saw Tom collaborate extensively on CD and vinyl releases with his production mentor Alex K as well as supporting him on a European tour. Since progressing away from the rave scene Tom has crafted a unique style both as a house music DJ, producer and gourmet food critic. Now in 2008 Tom Piper is one of the hardest working DJs in Australia with weekly interstate touring and residencies at Sydney’s most kickin’ nights. Piper doesn’t like genre’s, but some call it house, some tech, some rave, some fidget, some bassline, some baltimore, some garage, some electro, some disco.. they are all right in some way, it’s wrapped and folded with an streetwise edge and labeled The Freshness!.. that’s the package served up to music savvy clubbers every week around Australia and has seen Tom visit south east Asia numerous times this last year. The grind doesn’t stop at DJing for this young hustler. Tom Piper established and runs independent label bambamMuzik with Pablo. It’s home to his and Tom’s new group, The Jump Off (releases Point’n’Clap & Rackhunters), and of course Tom’s first outlet for his personal releasesbefore signing things worldwide. It is Tom’s diversity as a producer that has allowed him to collaborate with key players from across the electronic spectrum including: hip-hop DJs Eko and G-Wizard to form production outfit battleSTAR; Tommy Trash (releases Fuck To The Bass & One More); and more recently with Nick Correlli from MYNC Project (release Indisco), Destroy Disco (release My Sound) & Jono Fernandez (release Rockstar). Also a master of the remix.. recent work see’s Tom refresh tracks by Grafton Primary, Sidney Samson, Empire Of The Sun, Mobin Master, Ursula 1000 and countless others over the past years. Whether he’s handling business as a label manager, planning to overthrow a third world dictator, rocking a club or working his magic in the studio, Tom Piper is undoubtedly one of the most diverse and energetic DJs making his mark on the Australian music landscape today.
