William Lind

About

Swedish bandleader, arranger and composer. Born November 3, 1911 in Fristad, Sweden — died April 14, 1995 in Bollnäs, Sweden. He studied at the Stockholm Conservatory of Music during the years 1933–1936. Lind made his debut as a café pianist at the age of 13 and four years later led the orchestra at the Borås revue. He graduated as an organist at the Academy of Music in 1936, and after a few years as a restaurant musician, he was employed in 1943 as a pianist by Radiotjänst and in 1945 became the leader of the popular 'Cabaret Orchestra', later also of the radio's 'Entertainment Orchestra' until 1964. In 1959, he was appointed music director at Sweden's Television. William Lind has, not least with his arranging skills, contributed to Swedish popular music gaining attention in Swedish radio, TV and theatre.
