Aarhus By-Orkester (English: Aarhus Civic Orchestra) was the symphony orchestra of the city of Aarhus, Denmark, operating under that name until 1983 when it was renamed to Aarhus Symfoniorkester. Founded by conductor Thomas Jensen in 1935 with musicians from Aarhus Teater. Jensen was the chief conductor of the orchestra until 1957. Later chief conductors during this period were Per Dreier (1957-1973), Jorma Panula (1973-1976), and Ole Schmidt (1978-1985). Starting 1973, the orchestra was residing in Aarhus Teater.
