American jazz cellist, born April 30, 1947 in Cleveland, Ohio, died on August 10, 2022.
Born Ronald Earsall DeVaughn, Abdul Khabir Wadud played exclusively cello from age nine, studied at Youngstown State University 1966-1967 and at Oberlin College Conservatory 1968-1970; at the latter he met and started playing with Julius A Hemphill. He has also recorded with Arthur Blythe, Frank Lowe, George Lewis, Cecil Taylor, Sam Rivers and others.
Father of Raheem DeVaughn.
