About

The band owes its name to the Spanish conqueror “Don Lope de Aguirre” who was immortalised in Werner Herzog´s film “Aguirre: The wrath of God” with Klauss Kinsky, which was shot in 1974.
“Aguirre” was born in 1990, as the consequence of the separation of “Virus”, (one of Argentina’s most popular rock band of the 80´s), after their presentation as an invited band in David Bowie’s concert in Buenos Aires in River Plate’s stadium in September of that year.
Two of the members of “Virus” formed the band: Mario Serra (drums, who is nowadays performing in Charly Garcia´s band as well) and Marcelo Moura (keyboards) jointly with Pablo Tapia (leading vocals). “Aguirre” participated in very important events such as performing as an invited band with Marillion in 1992, Midnight-Oil, Ratones Paranoicos, Charly García etc. That same year Aguirre participated in the “Cargo 92´” (organised by the French embassy in Argentina) with Mano Negra, and in other relevant events with, for example, “Os Paralamas do Successo”. “Aguirre” was invited as well in 1994 by MTV to participate in the “MTV Rock & Goal” (a soccer game which is played annually in Miami between latin rockers and which is organised by MTV).
After the releasing of the two first records (the first one produced by Zeta Bossio (from Soda Stereo) with Sony Music (with singles “El Camión”, “Ruge Hawaii”, “Penal Model” & “Terricolas” with a video released by MTV) Marcelo Moura left the band, and he was replaced by Ricardo Serra who is an ex-member of “Virus” as well. The band is completed by Claudio Di Lorenzo (bass guitar) and Augusto Pérez Guarnieri (percussion). In November “Aguirre” released its third compact named “Aguirre III”, with the single “Caño Light” (the correspondant video-clip was shot in December 1995 by Marcelo Páez in Miami).
In February 1997, “Aguirre” presented its compact on board of the boat “Yacaré II”, all along the Paraná river. The event was declared “of cultural interest”, by the province of Buenos Aires (see attached document). The 10 day-tour was a complete success and was sponsored by “Rock & Pop”, “Much Music” & Gancia for its product “Pronto-Bitt”. More than 11.000 people were present during 8 shows.
The band has been presenting their latest work all along the city of Buenos Aires (two shows were given in the “Hard Rock Cafe”) and La Plata ( where the band is from). By the end of September Aguirre has been invited to perform in Chile and in Puerto Rico.
In April 2016, Aguirre performed in the Sony Theatre in Buenos Aires, Argentina, with Henry Padovani (The Police's first guitarist), and Zeta Bosio from Soda Stereo and the Moura brothers, from Virus. ©Zorn Records / ©Zorn Productions
