Born into a musical family and began koto lessons with her mother at the age of four. Later she studied under Masateru Ando, assistant professor at Gedai University. In 1987 she graduated at Gedai. She subsequently gave the inaugural lecture at the Yamato Shimin Open University koto course, and won 2nd prize in the 25th Miyagi Association competition. She then performed for the European Community Academy, and in Central America represented the Japan Foundation and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1989. Aiko gave her first major solo recital in 1994. She played shamisen in an opera by Ikuma Dan in 2000. She is a member of the Miyagi Concert Team and the group "Tenebroso".
