American jazz drummer, born January 18, 1943 in Richmond, Virginia, USA.
A member of Miles Davis’ band for 13 years (1972-1985), he was one of the few people to have contact with Davis during his retirement from 1975–1981. Foster left Miles Davis in 1985, and since then has worked independently, sometimes as leader, sometimes as sideman.
