A death metal band from Hardenberg/Coevorden, The Netherlands. An early formation of the band was founded in 1988 as Manticore, but name was changed to Altar in 1990.
They broke up in the fall of 2001, but soon after guitarists Marcel Verdurmen and Richard Ludwig got back together and reformed the band with a new lineup. The group dissolved again in 2007.
In 2016 Marcel Verdurmen announced the comeback of Altar and in 2018 band's name was changed to AltarEgo to further distance themselves from the other Altar.
In late 2017 the original "Youth Against Christ" line-up also regrouped to perform the album live.
