On May 1st, 2019 the band retired the "Ambersmoke" name for "Grave Saddles" announcing: "as of today we’re going to be retiring the Ambersmoke name and will be known as Grave Saddles from here on! a name change is something we’ve discussed on and off for years and this seems a good of a time as ever to just go for it. we’ve become burdened by the Ambersmoke legacy (releasing a zillion “sad black metal” tapes limited to 5 buried in the woods will do that to a band) and the drama that brings with it and feel like our growth as musicians is being inhibited by continuing to work as Ambersmoke. this is not a new band, but it’s not just a name change either; more akin to a morphing between states (a la Songs: Ohia into Magnolia Electric Co.) we’ll still be playing all your old favorites from the past couple records live and will still be selling Ambersmoke records and remaining merch while it’s available and will be leaving the names unchanged on social media for a few days for people to catch up. our first show as Grave Saddles will be may 24th"
