Andrea Guarneri (1626—7 Dec 1698) was an Italian luthier and founder of Casa Guarneri (House of Guarneri) in Cremona. He was one of Nicolo Amati's most prominent students (alongside with Francesco Ruggieri and Antonio Stradivari). Andrea's eldest and youngest sons, Pietro Guarneri and Giuseppe filius Andreæ Guarneri, and especially his grandson Bartolomeo Giuseppe 'del Gesù' Guarneri, all became prominent luthiers. Guarneri's workshop gained fame and prominence for supplying less expensive instruments that still carried the prestigious 'Cremonese' designation. Andrea's most famous instrument was the 1676 Conte Vitale viola, which became one of the most copied designs by following generations of instrument-makers.
