Arnaud Rivière (b. 1974) is a French experimental electroacoustic musician, free improviser, instrument designer, sound installation artist, co-founder and director of Sonic Protest Festival, and a member of ONCEIM ensemble. Currently based in Paris and active since the late 1990s, Rivière plays on DIY-electroacoustic device (built around a repaired turntable's pick-up), prepared mixer, and other primitive sound tools, performing solo, in groups, and with numerous improvisers.
Throughout his career, Arnaud Rivière had been actively collaborating with Alexandre Bellenger and Aaron Moore (from Volcano The Bear). They played and recorded together as Textile Trio, and in numerous other combinations and line-ups, including an extended Textile Orchestra (with Dan Warburton on violin), and Bobby Moo trio (Rivière, Bellenger and noise maker Miho). Arnaud Rivière's music has been published on over fifteen CD, CD-R, 12"/10"/7" vinyl, and digital releases through Sonic Protest Festival, Sonic Protest Festival, Sonic Protest Festival, Sonic Protest Festival, Sonic Protest Festival, Intro · In Situ, Sonic Protest Festival, Sonic Protest Festival, Sonic Protest Festival, Sonic Protest Festival, Sonic Protest Festival and other labels – including various compilations, split-singles, solo recordings, and collaborations with Bayal (a duo of John Boyle and Aya Ohnishi from The Nihilist Spasm Band), Jean-Philippe Gross, eRikm + Martin Tétreault & DJ Sniff, Antoine Chessex, and Balinese Beast.
Rivière had also performed live and improvised with such prominent international musicians, as Roger Turner, Otomo Yoshihide, Anla Courtis, Martin Ng, Gert-Jan Prins, Ignaz Schick, Pascal Battus, Sophie Agnel, Jean-Noël Cognard, Adam Bohman, Joke Lanz, Daniel Padden and Laurence Coleman of Volcano The Bear, Mario Gabola, Clayton Thomas, Olivier Di Placido, and Mat Pogo.
In addition to these instrumental works, Arnaud Rivière is also active as a sound installation artist. He created LA TURBOTHEQUE, an absurd jukebox that reads music vertically instead of the horizontally: all tracks on CD are played simultaneously, so the whole album is length-compressed to the size of the longest song. Arnaud contributed sound design to installations by Pierre Ardouvin, Guillaume Constantin and other prominent French visual artists, and created several videos with [a= Jérôme Fino].
For over a decade, Arnaud Rivière has been organizing experimental music events in Paris area, and used to work as a booker for Sonic Protest Festival.
