About

American singer, composer, arranger, vocal arranger and lyricist.
Born July 7, 1922 in New York City, New York, USA.
Died June 16, 2006 in Los Angeles, California, USA.

He was the baritone member of The Crew Chiefs, and he also sang with Glenn Miller's band.
Malvin's compositions include "I'm Headin' For California", "Join the W.A.C.", "Time in the Town of Berlin", "Flying Home", "Glenn's Travels", "Goodnight Wherever You Are", "Time Alone Will Tell", and "Let Me Be Your Sugar Baby".
Malvin sang on two U.S. charted songs: The first was "So Rare" by Jimmy Dorsey in 1957. It became a #2 chart hit and featured the vocals by the Artie Malvin Singers. The second was "A You're Adorable (The Alphabet Song)" by the Buddy Kaye Quintet in 1959--hitting #24. Malvin was the chorus master and featured on 'Jackie Gleason Presents "Oooo!"' as the Vocal Orchestra of Artie Malvin, the backing vocals creating the sound of a string section and orchestra without singing words (just guitar and piano accompaniment).
After World War II and Glenn Miller's death, Malvin became heavily immersed in the popular music of the 1940's-50's, being involved in everything from children's music to the beginnings of rock and roll to jingles for commercials.
In the 1960s and 1970s Malvin wrote musical material for television shows earning two Emmy Awards (one for his work on the Carol Burnett Show and the other for work on a Frank Sinatra Special). In 1980 he received a Tony nomination for his work on the Broadway show, "Sugar Babies'' starring Mickey Rooney and Ann Miller.
