Beloved

About

Beloved was a progressive / psychedelic rock group founded as a trio with lead guitarist and vocalist Chip Hopkins, drummer, Larry Bobroff and Amos Philman (also referenced as Buddy Philman), bass and vocals, in Gainesville, Florida in 1968. The band went through several name changes, starting with The Kids Next Door, then just The Kids, before settling on Beloved. In 1971 Beloved signed a three year deal with Capricorn Records on the Atco label in Macon, GA. By 1973 the group had added, Buddy Brand and Rick Arnez, keys, George Hernholm, drums, and guitarist, Gary Vineyard, which they acquired from another local act by the name of Isaiah. They traveled extensively with a caravan of three vehicles which included a 22 foot van, hauling their over the top sound system, a 20 channel mixing board, sound techs, instruments and band. Beloved briefly owned a club in the Cocoa Beach, Florida area by the name of Odyssey and another in Tallahassee.
