    Swedish conductor, pianist and theater manager, born 3 April 1919 in Malmö, died 24 September 2010.


    He was employed at the Royal Theater (now the Royal Opera) as a rehearser in 1942 and became Kapellmeister there in 1954. Bokstedt was appointed in 1969 as curator at Drottningholm's castle theater (formerly fr 1967), a position he left in 1980, and in the years 1971–1977 was director of the Royal Theater . Bertil Bokstedt became a member of the Royal Academy of Music in 1972.

    He was the frormer head of the Royal Opera in Stockholm. He was director of the Opera between 1971 and 1977. He succeeded Göran Gentele as opera manager.

    In the late 1950s, Bokstedt was also often an accompanist for the great Jussi Björling.

    Bertil Bokstedt was also curator at the Drottningenolmsteatern for many years, where he also served as conductor.

    During his time as opera manager, Bokstedt worked for increased touring operations and an expanded subscription system.
