Betty Watson

American gospel soprano singer, arranger & vocal group leader. Born April 14, 1937 in Arkansas. Died August 31, 2003. Watson and [a569446] founded the Northern California State Youth Choir of the Church of God in Christ (COGIC) in May of 1967, which included almost fifty members. The group was split in 1969 after the success of "Oh Happy Day", with Watson and another soloist organizing a new group, taking the original name. Betty sang with her sisters in the group [a=The Watson Sisters]--Betty, Mary, Shirley Jeanetta Watson (born c.1942) and Macletus Watson (born c.1944). and Betty and Mary were twins. All of the sisters were born in Arkansas but moved to California.
