Billy Sherrill

Nashville-based recording engineer, originally from Paducah, Kentucky, born c. 1947. Died September 10, 2024.

He was hired to work as assistant engineer at Sound Shop around Thanksgiving 1969. In the spring of 1975, he left Sound Shop to move at Jack Clement Recording (later known as Sound Emporium).
Do not confuse with Billy Sherrill, his famous namesake, a prolific producer, songwriter (for Epic/Columbia), and also sound engineer in Nashville, who died in 2015.*

He made his first recording session on Jan. 1, 1970. He also worked at Sound Emporium and with engineer Harold Lee.

*Note: please, be very careful when credit this profile or Billy Sherrill; due to - coincidentally - almost same area (Nashville), same period (1970/80s) and same technical role. Billy Sherrill worked as sound engineer -at least- till 1964 at Sam Phillips Studio, Nashville (but possibly also after this date!) and he turned more into a producer role (the majority of his career). While Billy Sherrill (2) started to work in very early of 1970s at Sound Emporium / Sound Emporium, then Sound Emporium and spent the majority of his career as sound engineer (very rarely as producer).
