About

Blind Iris is a band from Logan, UT. They formed from the ashes of Lt. Dan and Eggs Blackstone in February 2003. To date Bind Iris has released two albums. Their full-length self titled debut included the hit song “Drive” featured on the Tony Hawk THUG soundtrack. The album is now considered extremely rare and out of print.

Their second full-length album was released in late 2006. One thousand copies were produced but the band opted to play only six shows to support the album before going on hiatus in early 2007. The album “Meltdown in Lava” is a musical masterpiece as rare as an honest man in politics.

The album can be best understood if separated into two parts. The music written in the wake of Blind Iris’s international success, and the music written several months later, after the tide had settled.

The songs written in the wake include Demoralized, Soured, Little Pictures, Rattlesnake Plain and Loss of Paradise. The common thread found in these compositions is a frantic, overwhelmingly dark expression of the tumultuous relationship the members of the band found themselves in, chiefly fueled by their own collective idealism.

The second set of songs were written after the band let go of their cumbersome expectations and, as a thread pulled too tightly snaps, releasing a ripple of freedom and expression, began to focus on the natural current of an untapped creative vision.

Blind Iris’s unique gift for storytelling, both lyrically and musically, becomes apparent during this period. Songs include Pull that Lever, The Tattered Tale of Brown Butterfly, Trust Issues, Earth Blankets White, Particle of Pollen, Keep on Rising and a cover of the Eggs Blackstone classic, Stormy (Ballad of a Vampire).

These two inspiring time periods in Blind Iris’s history blend magically on “Meltdown in Lava” to create an audible emotional roller coaster. Although the future of Blind Iris is uncertain, the impact of their music on an underground music scene is undeniably.
