The Bokaloka emerged in 1995 under the name of "Água Na Boca" and was formed by Renato César (vocals), Toninho Branco (cavaquinho), Leandro Sapucahy (pandeiro), Layse Sapucahy (percussion), Robinho Batera (drums), Pedro Py (keyboard), Marcelo Macgiver (bass) and Nelson Bidú (surdo).
In 1997 he released his first CD Você Vai Se Amarrar (Indie Records) being, "Mais Uma Chance", the first work song. In 1998 the second CD Apaixonado with the songs "Apaixonado" and "Shortinho saint tropez".
In 1999 the third CD Bokaloka was released by EMI, with "Duas paixões" being the working song.
In 2001, some live discs recorded from the Bokaloka performances were launched in the alternative market, falling in popular taste and further increasing the popularity of Bokaloka. The popularity of alternative CD's was one of the factors that led the record company Deckdisc to release the CD De Verdade (Ao Vivo) and which has been very successful throughout Brazil.
