Boyd Bennett formed his group in the early 50s, originally using the name Boyd Bennett & His Southlanders. After a few years, they changed their name to Boyd Bennett & His Rockets. They soon got the attention of Syd Nathan, owner of King Records (3). After recording two country songs, they got a contract with King and became King Studio's house band. They went on to back up King artists such as Earl Bostic, Merle Travis, and Bill Doggett.
