American Female Vocal Group
The original Brides of Funkenstein were Lynn Mabry and Dawn Silva, two vocalists who were background singers for [a=Sly and the Family Stone] in the mid-70s.
George Clinton first met them while Sly was opening for Parliament-Funkadelic and offered them to join the P.Funk camp in 1977.
A year later in, 1978, the Brides debut album [m19717] was released. With the help of their hit single "Disco to Go", the album went gold.
They began touring with P-Funk for the "One Nation Under a Groove" tour, but Lynn left the group in 1979, due to financial disputes and her becoming pregnant.
The second version of the Brides included (original member) Dawn Silva, Sheila Horne, and Jeanette McGruder (an Atlantic records session vocalist). They release [m19722] (1979) to great critical acclaim, but only modest commercial success.
The group began recording a never-released third album, but financial and creative disputes broke the group up.
