About

German instrumentalist, studio musician, and bandleader.
Born September 19, 1941 in Offenbach, Germany.
Died July 6, 2025 in Germany.

Buddy Caine began his musical career in the early 1960s with the Tornados. In 1963, his band became the backing group for singer Manuela as “The Five Dops,” performing widely across German-speaking countries and doubling Manuela’s vocals for improved live quality. After parting ways in 1967, he received the stage name “Buddy Caine” from Ralph Siegel in Munich. His first single “Tränen im Gesicht” (German version of “A Whiter Shade of Pale”)/“Baby, das ist Liebe” saw considerable success. Between 1967 and 1976, Buddy Caine released fourteen singles. From 1989 onward, he found steady work as a musician on cruise ships and established the Buddy Caine Band, which remains active and popular. Deeply connected to the Offenbacher Kickers, he created the iconic 1984 Bundesliga promotion anthem “Rot und Weiss sind unsere Farben,” which is still played as the club’s goal hymn.
