US audio engineer and producer (August 9, 1941, Marshall, Michigan - August 14, 2017, Northridge, California). Father of producer/engineer Cal Harris Jr.
He was active in Los Angeles, where he started his career at Gold Star Studios. He moved to Gold Star Studios in the late 1960s and became head of Motown/Hitsville U.S.A. Recording Studios, where he worked alongside producer/arranger James Anthony Carmichael. Also operated his own Cal Harris Studios. He was known and credited for his extensive knowledge of synthesizers.
