His recording studio was in Modesto, California.
He charted as a songwriter five times on the U.S. country charts between 1955 and 1965. His first hit was his biggest "Penny Candy" by Jim Reeves, which made it to #5 on the U.S. in 1955. He also charted with "He Stands Real Tall" by Del Reeves (1962, #11), "Better Times a Comin' "by Ray Godfrey (1962, #20), "Better Times a-Coming" by Jim & Jesse (1964, #39), and "He Stands Real Tall" by Little Jimmy Dickens (1965, #21).
