About

Guitarist credited on A Manual Dexterity: Soundtrack Volume One CD/2×LP released by Omar Rodriguez-Lopez as a soundtrack to his 2010 independent film debut, The Sentimental Engine Slayer. The "Deus Ex Machina" song, where Cecilio Ortiz played guitar, was written and sung by Omar's father, renowned psychiatrist and salsa musician, Angel Marcelo Rodriguez-Cheverez (b. 1949), or "Rod-Che;" he also appeared in the movie. Due to the lo-fi production of the soundtrack album, it's unclear whether it was a recent performance by Ortiz and Rodriguez-Cheverez or the archival tape. (On his now-defunct website, Marcelo wrote about his early days: "After setting up his practice in El Paso TX, Rod-Che performed as a soloist with Gilbert de Paz, Dr Cecilio Ortiz on the guitar and several salsa bands.")
