Wellington, New Zealand based electro-synth rockers Charlie Ash were formed around the Christchurch-raised duo of bassist/keytar player Mailee Matthews (formerly of Maestro Cooltone and the Phantasmasies) and vocalist Rosie Riggir, and play a variety of fun, schlocky pop with a mutual love for lavish costumes and theatrical stage shows. The group convened when Matthews moved to Wellington in 2004, and were completed by the addition of Jean Pompey, Dave Prendergast and Benny O. They debuted on the New Zealand music scene with their saucy synth-humping turbo-pop fueled EP Can Can (2007).
