Chris Lucey was a pseudonym used by Bobby Jameson (born April 20, 1945, Geneva, Illinois, USA – died May 12, 2015, San Luis Obispo, California, USA) who was an American singer and songwriter. He appeared in the Robert Carl Cohen 1967 cult-movie Mondo Hollywood, along with his then girlfriend Gail Sloatman, who later became Gail Zappa. He recorded on Verve Records, simply as "Jameson" and also worked as a session musician and performed under the alias Chris Lucey. He recorded the album Songs of Protest and Anti Protest under the name of Chris Lucey.
The reason the artist title bears no resemblence to Jameson, he was replacing Chris Ducey after Surrey Records found out Ducey was under contract to another label, therefore dropping Ducey, making an opening for Jameson. It's unclear exactly how and when Jameson was asked to re-do the album (possibly Surrey already had some Jameson demos or they found Jameson through connections in Hollywood after they dropped Ducey) , changing the title from "Chris Ducey" by fixing each already printed covers by hand to alter the 'D' To make an "L" for "Chris Lucey". Everything else about the artwork and titles remained the same to cut down costs. Bobby was given the titles of already printed track names, and used those to create new themes under the same titles. Totally new music was made with an African American jazz band and Bobby laying down his original lyrics under the guise of Chris Lucey. Bobby Jameson never used the name Chris Lucey after this recording session and continued to be a prolific songwriter/performer under his birth name until the 1980's.
The original Chris Ducey album, then appeared under a totally different name and title The Trio Of Time, at least 2 years later, on a small tax (write off) shelter label Surrey Records fronted by Jack Millman in Canada (with offices in Hollywood California as well) The Trio Of Time album was released in relative obscurity. It remains unclear how Millman ended up with the tapes.
Before Bobby Jameson's death, he wrote about his experiences in the music industry and life in general on his successful blog(s).
