About

Colonel Britton was a pseudonym used by Douglas Ritchie (born 1905 - died 1967). During the Second World War he was an assistant news editor at the BBC who broadcast to German occupied countries and used the name Colonel Britton to protect his true identity, which was a closely guarded secret until after the war. By the time of the disclosure of his identity in 1945 he was director of the European news department of the BBC.
