Current Joys

Current Joys is the project of singer-songwriter Nick Rattigan, from Las Vegas, Nevada. Beginning as a lo-fi bedroom recording project, Current Joys evolved into a richly atmospheric indie rock act that draws on post-punk, dream pop, folk, and classic American songwriting, with Rattigan's understated vocals and confessional lyrics at the centre. Early releases including A Flag Without a Country (2015) built a devoted following in the lo-fi and indie underground, their home-recorded intimacy and emotional rawness connecting directly with listeners who valued authenticity over polish. Voyager (2018) expanded the sound while retaining the essential character of the project. Ricky Eat Acid (2019) and American Idol (2020) marked a significant maturation — the latter a particularly strong record that addressed themes of loneliness, identity, and the particular anxieties of American life with a new formal confidence. Bliss (2022) was his most ambitious and fully-realised album, the production reaching beyond lo-fi constraints while keeping the emotional directness intact. Rattigan also plays drums for the band Surf Curse, contributing to their recordings and touring extensively, which has broadened his audience considerably. Current Joys remains a project defined by personal honesty and a willingness to evolve without abandoning the intimacy that gave the early work its power.
