Jamaican band leader, grandfather of disco singer, actor and model Grace Jones.
According to 'With The Stars' column, written by Batman, in The Star, Friday, July 25, 1958, "A couple weeks ago, Dan returned to the island from Miami, ill. Last week, his fingers trembled for the last time and he was buried while friends and relatives wept.
One of Jamaica's most popular pianists was Daniel Williams. He was the first of three Williamses who made the piano their instrument. The other two were his nephews, Luther, better known as Wee Willie and who for years made Club Havana one of Kingston's liveliest night spots-he's now at Arawak- and 'Professor,' who's now banging the ivories on the European Continent. Many people still recall the wonderful music he [Dan] used to make at the Myrtle Bank Hotel two decades ago. Since then he has played in nearly every major club and theatre in the island. His calypso recordings with Lord Fly are treasured in many homes. Within recent years, Uncle Dan has been alternating between Jamaica, Nassau and the United States, winning friends and influencing people."
