About

American physician and violinist (born September 19, 1861 in Sulligent, AL - died December 10, 1927 in Sulligent, AL)

In 1924, Dr. D. D. Hollis recorded twelve solo violin tracks for Paramount in New York City. Four of these tracks were released; an additional four on test pressings were preserved by his family. Hollis had taken up the violin at age ten on his family's plantation in Alabama. He took formal lessons while a medical student in Baltimore in the 1880s. His recordings, which preserve the 19th-century style of fiddling, are some of the earliest fiddle recordings made.
