Collier studied at the Royal Academy of Music. He was the leader of many of the great British orchestras including the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, The London Symphony Orchestra, [a153980] and the Philharmonia Orchestra. He was also Professor of Violin at the Royal Academy Of Music.

Father of violinist Suzie Collier; maternal grandfather of multi-instrumentalist Jacob Collier.
